Obesity and hypothyroidism

Obesity and hypothyroidism are closely linked, as hypothyroidism slows down metabolism, often leading to weight gain. The thyroid gland, which produces hormones crucial for regulating metabolism, can become underactive, resulting in symptoms like fatigue, decreased energy, and increased fat storage. Weight gain in hypothyroid patients tends to be gradual and may be difficult to lose without proper thyroid management. Addressing this relationship involves thyroid hormone replacement therapy, which can help restore metabolic function. Additionally, dietary adjustments, exercise, and managing other contributing factors, like stress and sleep, can support weight management in individuals with hypothyroidism. Identifying and treating hypothyroidism early can mitigate its impact on weight.
