Gut Microbiome & Its Role in Obesity

The gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in metabolic health, influencing obesity development and progression. Emerging evidence on the gut microbiome & its role in obesity reveals how microbial composition can affect nutrient absorption, energy balance, and fat storage. Imbalances in gut bacteria, often referred to as dysbiosis, have been linked to insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and alterations in appetite regulation—all contributing to obesity. Studies suggest that gut microbes influence host metabolism by interacting with the immune system and modulating the release of hormones that regulate hunger and satiety. Probiotics, prebiotics, and dietary modifications aimed at improving gut health are being explored as potential therapeutic approaches to prevent and manage obesity. By targeting the gut microbiome, scientists are uncovering novel strategies to support weight loss and reduce obesity-related health risks.
