Insulin resistance and obesity

Insulin resistance is a condition often associated with obesity, where cells in the body become less responsive to insulin, leading to elevated blood sugar levels. This resistance is largely influenced by excess body fat, particularly visceral fat, which releases fatty acids and inflammatory molecules that disrupt insulin function. Over time, insulin resistance can progress to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other metabolic complications. Managing obesity through a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and weight reduction can improve insulin sensitivity, helping to prevent or even reverse insulin resistance. Addressing insulin resistance is a vital part of comprehensive obesity management, as it enhances blood sugar control and reduces risks of severe metabolic disorders.
