Hyperinsulinemia in obesity

Hyperinsulinemia, characterized by elevated insulin levels in the blood, is a common condition among individuals with obesity. Excess fat, particularly abdominal fat, leads to insulin resistance, where the body’s cells become less responsive to insulin. As a result, the pancreas compensates by producing more insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Over time, this creates a vicious cycle that can lead to type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders. Insulin resistance also promotes fat storage and contributes to weight gain. To address hyperinsulinemia, effective management of obesity through weight loss, regular physical activity, and a balanced diet is essential. Reducing body fat can improve insulin sensitivity, helping to restore healthy metabolic function and reduce the risk of associated chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions.
