Abstract:
Calories in, calories out: that is what healthcare professionals are taught globally. A simplified model of metabolism, of our energy in the body, and the model we use to target fat-loss in the mission to conquer obesity. Despite this model's best efforts, it has not been able to conquer the rising global obesity epidemic, costing billions in economic loss every year. Obesity is a multifaceted condition, and only with better models at each facet can we hope to overcome this social, psychological, physical, personal, and genetic condition. In this presentation I will present different models for exercise, nutrition, and the relationship between them. This model will help healthcare practitioners and the public describe and prescribe exercise and nutrition to the health benefits of their patients and themselves. This will help reshape how we view metabolism as well as provide strategies to mitigate and alleviate excessive fat accumulation with new targets and measurements in both exercise and nutrition.
