Abstract:

Background: Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disorder which can be managed by lifestyle management. Physical activity plays a vital in role in diabetic & prediabetic . Physical Activity and sleep quality control blood sugar levels and lowers risk of Heart disease and nerve damage (3). The ADA and EASD has categorized physical activity behaviors into 5 S. The 5 S stands for: - Sitting, Stepping, Sweating, Strengthening and Sleep which plays very important role in management of diabetes.
Objective: To audit the 5S approach of physical activity behaviors in urban populations & to determine the impact of 5S approach of physical activity in patterns of HbA1C levels and body mass index (BMI) of the urban population.
Methodology : It is a retrospective study. we included 100 subjects of all genders with age group of ≥18 years who were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes& had HbA1C level of above 6.5%. Participants whose questionnaire was available as a part of standard of care. Participants who had recently undergone surgery& T1D M and GDM patients were excluded from the study. Subjects were asked to fill the 5S approach of physical activity questionnaire as a part of standard of care activity.
Results: In our study BMI is associated with step count sleep hours ,sweating & prolong sitting & HbA1c is associated with step count,sweating,strength training & prolong sitting.
Conclusion: 5S approach emphasize the importance of reducing sedentary time, promoting strength training and enhancing sleep quality in T2DM management. Targeted interventions in these areas can help improve health outcomes and quality of life for T2DM patients.
