Abstract:

Background: Overweight and obesity in childhood are known to have significant impact on both physical and psychological health. Overweight and obese children are likely to stay obese into adulthood and more likely to develop non-communicable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases at a younger age

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a range of interventions that include diet or physical activity components, or both, designed to prevent obesity in children.

Methods: Our method involved using infographics to communicate and engage children in making healthy food choices and using cartoons make in the shape of fruits and vegetables to make health foods appear fun and having mini gyms to get children exposed to gym using at a younger age. We piloted a program in a large urban school district in Nevada.

Outcomes/conclusions: Our approach to obesity prevention showed much high improvements in cognition, engagement and activity among children enrolled in our study.
